Makeup Bag Beginners Guide

Here’s my makeup bag beginners guide to help you start creating yours…

New to makeup? Or simply trying to re-organise? Well here is a simple list of some things you may find helpful to get you started.

The Makeup Bag

First and foremost: a makeup bag – whilst it will be tempting to pick the first one you see to get this ticked off. I would like to point you in the direction of a clear makeup bag. The simple advantage is that you can actually find your makeup quicker. They are also much easier to keep clean.

What to put in it

Eyelash curlers are something we are pretty much all guilty of forgetting to upgrade or sometimes even purchase. This tool is not given the credit it deserves. They give us beautiful big eyes, helping our own eyelashes reach for the sky. My personal favourite are the rose gold ‘Life Changing Lashes’ curlers by Charlotte Tilbury. They are so pretty. I love using them!

There aren’t many of us ladies that don’t own a pair of tweezers. But, do you have a pair of the Barbara Carranza Ergonomic Tweezers? They are hands down the best tweezers I have ever used. It makes light work of precision application of false lashes because they are angled. They even come in a variety of colour options.

Conceal, don’t feel

A quality concealer is priceless. I recommend either Tarte Shape’s Tape Concealer which is iconic for sculpting and giving maximum coverage. Another favourite is Too Faced Born This Way Super Coverage Multi-Use Sculpting Concealer. I mean, the name says it all. This baby works miracles after even the latest of nights.

Perhaps one of the most staple items of a makeup bag these days is a highlighter. This product is multi-functional and helps us all get the goddess glow we crave. Day to day, a strobing pen is quick and effective or highlighting drops help you have dewy skin so you have a healthy look. I adore Laura Geller’s Pillow Top Illuminator in Gilded Honey. It gives you that fresh glow without a shimmer.

Did you know that lip liner is just as great as lipstick? Sometimes even better because you can line your lips and fill them in – two for one! I am so in love with the Dose of Colours Lip Liners. They have released 18 gorgeous colours that are seriously smooth. The finish is matte with a high coverage. Plus there is a built in sharpener included. For £12 a liner, they are a beauty favourite.

Fix up, look sharp

Sharpen up those pencils with Anastasia Beverly Hills. This simply chic sharpener comes with two standard-sized holes to help you get a suitably pointy end to your liner. With a lid to enclose the shavings you’ll be able to limit any mess too.

You can’t go wrong with an eyeliner pen for that perfect feline flick. The top picks include Kat Von D’s Tattoo Liner £17, Fenty Beauty Flyliner £17, Charlotte Tilbury Feline Flick £35. They make precision on this look super easy. You’ll make everyone envy those flicks.

Don’t forget the balm! Lucas’ Papaw Treatment is loved by MUA’s and you’ll love it too once you give it a try. You can purchase it through Amazon and it’s boy-friendly. It doesn’t smell too girly and it doesn’t give you a sticky effect. Your lips feel nourished and left with a gorgeous pout.
